The September 10th meeting of the Garden State Horror Writers will feature editor Don DAuria,

The event takes place Saturday, September 10th at the East Brunswick Library, 2 Jean Walling Civic Center, East Brunswick, NJ 08816-3529. The business meeting starts at 11 am, followed by the speaker at noon.

Don DAuria has worked in publishing for twenty-five years, most recently as executive editor at Leisure Books, where for fifteen years he directed their horror line. Born and raised in suburban New Jersey, he was the quintessential horror kid, growing up on a steady diet of TV’s Chiller Theater on Friday nights, Creature Features on Saturday nights, and horror novels and Famous Monsters magazine the rest of the time. After earning a master’s degree in English from Columbia University, he dove into publishing, where he’s been lucky enough to work in the genre he’s always loved. He is the recipient of an International Horror Guild Award for his contributions to the genre.

June 11th meeting of the GSHW featuring John French: “CSI for Writers”.

The June 11th meeting of the Garden State Horror Writers will feature crime scene investigator John L. French. He will talk about integrating realistic CSI techniques and information into fiction. He will also field questions from the audience.

John L. French is a crime scene supervisor with the Baltimore Police Department Crime Laboratory. As a writer of crime, pulp and horror fiction his stories have appeared in Hardboiled, Alfred Hitchcock’s Mystery Magazine, THE DEAD WALK, FLESH AND IRON and other anthologies. He was the consulting editor for Chelsea House’s CRIMINAL INVESTIGATIONS series for young adults. His latest book is HERE THERE BE MONSTERS, A Bianca Jones Collection. He is the editor of BAD COP, NO DONUT, Tales of Police Behaving Badly.

The May 14h meeting of the Garden State Horror Writers will feature writer C.J. Henderson, talking on “Increase Sales Writing Diverse Fiction”.

C.J. is the author of the critically acclaimed Teddy London series of supernatural mysteries, featuring an occult private eye. His latest novel, Central Park Knight, features Brooklyn’s own answer to Indiana Jones — museum curator Piers Knight. March 12th meeting of the Garden State Horror Writers: Aaron Rosenberg on “Time Management for Writers”.

The GSHW monthly meeting will feature guest speaker author Aaron Rosenberg. Aaron will speak on “Time Management for Writers”.

“Fantasy — How Subversive Can you Make It?” A talk by Hugo award-winning author John Grant.
John Grant is author of some seventy books, of which about twenty-five are fiction, including novels like The World, The Hundredfold Problem, The Far-Enough Window and most recently (2008) The Dragons of Manhattan and Leaving Fortusa. His book-length fiction Dragonhenge, illustrated by Bob Eggleton, was shortlisted for a Hugo Award in 2003; its successor was The Stardragons. His first story collection, Take No Prisoners, appeared in 2004. His anthology New Writings in the Fantastic was shortlisted for a British Fantasy Award. His novella The City in These Pages has recently appeared from PS Publishing.
As John Grant he has received two Hugo Awards, the World Fantasy Award, the Locus Award, and a number of other international literary awards. Under his real name, Paul Barnett, he has written a few books (like the space operas Strider’s Galaxy and Strider’s Universe) and for a number of years ran the world-famous fantasy-artbook imprint Paper Tiger, for this work earning a Chesley Award and a nomination for the World Fantasy Award.
